Medium wood is essential for continues fire rejuvenation. It is subtle, easy to carry, and has a great burning length.
A good example seen here...with a small offshoot. perfect as a handle, or sticking the wood inside a tight nook in the fire.

Night time medium wood searches can be prickly and seem hopeless, but it is all worth while when a pair of gems like this get discovered.
I would have to say my fav. piece of medium wood for the night, notice the easy grip, and length. A perfect burning piece.

as you can see i had to entertain myself a great deal with medium wood...none of that yesteryear pizazz or tom foolery...sigh!
